The Family of God

I opened the pretty red envelope from my very dear friend who is one of the most positive and grateful people I know. She has influenced my life in ways I likely won’t fully understand this side of heaven. She was a part of our church family when I was born and has been in my life in one way or another ever since. I know she prays for me, and I, for her. While we are 20 years apart in age, we are sisters because of the transforming grace of Jesus Christ in both of our lives.

My friend has always be an encouragement to me and today’s letter was no different. Full of love and celebration of God’s goodness. Today she celebrated the fact that my sister and I are both “back in the pulpit again” after both of us being retired from pastoral ministry for a brief period. She writes: “Your Mom and Dad raised two powerful spokespersons for the WORD. Praise His Name and God bless you both!!!” The words fill my heart with joy and my eyes with tears as this beautiful woman of God shared her love and blessing all over my life.

As we walk through this world, we have so many choices that can serve to breathe life or death into the situations in which we find ourselves. My friend has some health issues. She says, “I just can’t run, jump, and dance in the usual way.” A breath of life!

Today, I had come from a good, but fairly difficult meeting where I needed to take a strong stand for biblical truth. Feeling drained after the experience, I remembered the life-giving words of my dear friend and realized how blessed I truly am. I will treasure her label of love for me and my sister until I see Jesus face to face.

I will try always to live up to her assessment of being a powerful spokesperson for the WORD. What glorious love the Father has bestowed on us by way of sisters and brothers in the family. How can we measure the height and depth and breadth of such love! Only in giving away the love He so generously bestows just when we need it most. To God be the glory!

May you experience the love of Christ, although it is too great to understand fully (Eph. 3:19).

Sing with me!

I’m so glad I’m a part, of the family of God!

Washed in the fountain, cleansed by His blood

Joint heirs with Jesus, as we travel this sod

For I’m part of the family, the family of God!
